HISTORY

Origin and history of the international capsicum convention

In 2010, the first international capsicum convention, presided over by the ADEX paprika committee, was held. It was decided to initiate a meeting of interest to discuss the issues that the Capsicum sector was experiencing at the time with regard to EU regulations on The maximum permissible microtoxin.

The convention, entitled “Safety, sustenance of competitiveness” focused its attention on analyzing these problems with the participation of national and international experts, as well as experienced actors from the chain, and representatives of public and private institutions related to the activity.

IMPORTANCE

Economically, peppers are no longer considered a minor crop and have merited attention by several federal and state experiment stations, as well as other public and private research and development agencies. IPC has served as an extremely useful tool in rapid dissemination of capsicum research information. Subsequently, other pepper-promoting groups have organized, such as:

  • California Pepper Improvement Foundation,
  • California Pepper Commission,
  • Texas Pepper Foundation,
  • New Mexico Chile Improvement Foundation,
  • New Mexico Chile Commission,
  • International Connoisseurs of Green and Red Chile at Las Cruces,
  • New Mexico and Florida Pepper Commission.

The IPC membership consists of over 2,100 names and many maintain membership in one or more of the smaller groups.
